StillFire Brewing Smyrna Taproom

StillFire Brewing has added a new chapter to its story with the opening of a Smyrna taproom on March 13, 2026. The brewery already built a strong reputation at its original Suwanee location, and the expansion brings its award-winning beer program closer to Cobb County drinkers.

The timing arrives on the heels of national recognition. StillFire’s Hoochie Momma Milk Stout earned a Silver Medal at the 2025 World Beer Cup, a competition widely viewed as the Olympics of beer. The award places the brewery among top producers in the industry and adds to a long list of honors from competitions around the country.

StillFire Brewing traces its roots back to 2011. Suwanee residents Randall and Angela Veugeler helped launch the Suwanee American Craft Beer Fest that year, an event that grew into Georgia’s largest beer festival and later earned USA Today’s 2025 Reader’s Choice award for Best Beer Fest in America.

Through the festival, the Veugelers met homebrewer Phil Farrell. Farrell already carried a reputation in brewing circles after collecting hundreds of homebrewing awards. Along with Aaron Bisges, who took charge of operations, the group began plans for a brewery of their own.

The opportunity arrived when a former fire station near Suwanee Town Center Park became available. After planning and renovations, StillFire Brewing opened its doors in October 2019.

StillFire’s brewing program is led by brewmaster Phil Farrell, known in beer circles as “The Chicken Man.” Farrell brings nearly four decades of brewing experience along with an extensive judging background.

He holds Grand Master status in the Beer Judge Certification Program and ranks among the top beer judges in the world. Farrell has judged thousands of entries in major competitions including the Great American Beer Festival, the World Beer Cup, and the Great British Beer Festival.

Before focusing on brewing full time, Farrell spent 28 years as a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot and instructor. His aviation career later included work as a commercial airline pilot, a role that allowed him to visit beer destinations across the globe.

The Smyrna location introduces StillFire’s beer lineup to a new audience in Cobb County. Visitors can find rotating selections from the brewery along with guest food trucks.

Current beer lists and upcoming food vendors are updated online.

Bubbles & Brews

March in Cobb County brings a full calendar of craft beverage stops, thanks to Bubbles & Brews. Hosted by Cobb Travel & Tourism, this month-long promotion runs March 1 through March 31, inviting visitors to explore local breweries, wineries, and distilleries while collecting stamps and earning prizes.

Participants pick up a BrewPass, either in print at a participating location or digitally online, then start making their way along the Cobb Ale Trail. Each visit earns a stamp, and bonus stamps are available during select event nights throughout the month. The more stamps collected, the better the prize haul.

How It Works

Start by grabbing a BrewPass. Each time a participant visits a designated Hop Spot in March, a stamp is added to the pass. Digital users can check in online. Votes can also be cast for favorite beverages across fun categories, giving friendly bragging rights to local makers. Completed passes can be redeemed for SWAG through the Cobb Travel & Tourism office, with prize pickup appointments available through May 1.

Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao

Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao, the well-known soup dumpling restaurant from Flushing, New York, is bringing its award-winning flavors to the Mall of Georgia. Recognized for authentic Shanghainese cuisine, Nan Xiang has been a favorite destination for dumpling fans since opening in 2006.

Nan Xiang first opened in Flushing, NY, and quickly attracted attention for its skillfully prepared dumplings. The restaurant has been highlighted in the Michelin Guide for nine consecutive years, praised for consistent quality and flavor. This recognition has helped solidify Nan Xiang’s reputation as one of the most authentic Shanghainese dining experiences in the United States.

Soup dumplings, also known as Xiao Long Bao, are a unique dish from the Jiangnan region of China. Each dumpling is filled with a flavorful broth and tender meat, wrapped inside a thin layer of dough. The soup is created when gelatinized broth melts during steaming, producing a hot burst of flavor with every bite. Guests are encouraged to carefully lift the dumpling with chopsticks, place it in a spoon, and take a small bite to release the steam before enjoying the full experience.

How to Eat a Soup Dumpling

Eating a soup dumpling is both delicious and a little bit of an art. Here are the simple steps:

  1. Pick it up gently with chopsticks and place it into your soup spoon.
  2. Nibble a small hole near the top of the dumpling.
  3. Sip the hot broth carefully from the spoon.
  4. Add a touch of vinegar or ginger if you like.
  5. Eat the dumpling once it cools slightly.

Nan Xiang’s most popular dish is its namesake Xiao Long Bao, but the restaurant also features scallion pancakes, bowls of spring noodles, and several steamed dumpling varieties. Each item is designed to highlight authentic Shanghainese flavors. Guests who have visited the Flushing location often say it is a place where one order of dumplings quickly turns into two.

The Mall of Georgia opening reflects Nan Xiang’s continued growth into new regions. For Atlanta and Cobb County-area diners, this means Michelin-recommended soup dumplings are now within easy reach. The new restaurant will add a strong option for those seeking authentic Chinese flavors at one of the region’s busiest shopping and dining destinations.

Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao is set to become a highlight of the Mall of Georgia food scene. For dumpling lovers in Georgia, the wait is almost over.
